Course overview and learning outcomes

The course seeks to confirm knowledge, understanding and the performance of technical command skills through a formal assessment process in accordance with the performance learning outcomes and assessment criteria contained within the SFJ Level 3 Award in Initial Incident Command in Fire & Rescue Services.

On successful completion of the course learners will;

• Demonstrate an understanding of the key principles of the Incident Command System 
• Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of personnel within the Incident Command Structure 
• Demonstrate an understanding of the management of risk at operational incidents 
• Demonstrate an understanding of effective communication at operational incidents 
• Demonstrate an ability to plan an initial response to an operational incident 
• Demonstrate an ability to implement actions at an operational incident to meet planned objectives 
• Demonstrate an ability to close down the operational phase of an incident. 
• Demonstrate an ability to review a response to an operational incident. 

How is the course assessed and accredited?

It is important to note that assessment on this course results in a straight Pass or Fail.

The stages of assessment are:

• Development exercise: Sim Suite Practical Assessment
• Summative assessment: Incident Ground Practical Assessment or Simulated Incident utilising XVR
