Hero Challenge at the Fire Service College

Forty teams from across Capita raised over £18,000 for Alzheimer’s Society when they recently took part in the Hero Challenge at the Fire Service College.

The day challenged the heroes to get involved in a variety of mental and physical challenges. From bouncy, inflatable 'Total Wipeout' activities, to dressing up in firefighter uniforms, teams had a great day getting stuck in whilst raising money for the Capita corporate charity partner.

An added dimension was the 'remote' challenge, with team members far and wide taking part in an Alzheimer's Society text-based quiz, from various locations across the country.

Representing the College, “Out of the frying pan” team members Darren Bance, Jenny Hill, Simon Collyer and Nick Akerman, finished 10th overall. Jenny, who recently completed the Marathon des Sables, reputedly the toughest footrace in the world, led the participants in a warm-up routine.

Darren Bance, Managing Director, the Fire Service College, says “The day was great fun and enjoyed by everyone. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces coming together for such a worthy cause, and to showcase the College and our great facilities to colleagues from across Capita.”
