Breathing Apparatus Associate Trainers

The Fire Service College is actively seeking associate tutors (as and when needed) to deliver practical training to support our current and future demand. We are looking for individuals who have operational knowledge and experience with Breathing Apparatus Instruction (BAI), and who are ideally already a skilled trainer and current and competent in this area.

To be considered for this role, you must have good availability (between shifts, weekends) and be able to submit your availability regularly so we can plan you into our courses in advance.

On occasion, you may be required to act as a subject matter consultant to support the sales and bid process at the Fire Service College.

Essential experience, qualifications and requirements:

  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent, such as PTLLS) or willing to gain within 6 months of joining
  • Minimum of five years’ operational experience

Broad technical knowledge in fire service specialist training subjects (nationally accredited) in specific or different subjects such as

  • Breathing Apparatus Instructor (BAI) Essential
  • Fire Behaviour Instructor (FBTI) Would be useful
  • Tactical Ventilation Instructor (TVI) would be useful

You may be expected to work with Emergency Fire Contingency Crews (EFCC) from time to time

Essential experience:

  • Experience of managing learner expectations in line with their individual or employer requirements
  • Ability to ensure the health, safety and welfare of learners, staff, visitors and contractors
  • Active maintenance and development of your skills through continuous professional development

Desirable experience and qualifications:

  • Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (or equivalent, such as A1); or willing to achieve within 6 months commencing employment, if required
  • Product design and training development
  • Good ICT skills
  • Providing both written and verbal feedback
