This course is for

This course is designed for intermediate and advanced operational commanders who support or assume command at complex wildfire incidents, as well as experienced wildfire specialists seeking to strengthen their situational awareness, tactical decision‑making and multi‑agency coordination skills.

What you will learn

  • Develop strong situational awareness by understanding how to gather, interpret and manage critical information during dynamic wildfire incidents.
  • Learn to plan and formulate effective incident management strategies, including setting objectives, prioritising tactics and applying the Wildfire Prediction System.
  • Build the skills to implement incident management plans through sectorisation, resource coordination and clear communication within a multi‑agency command structure.
  • Strengthen decision‑making and tactical adaptability through immersive sand‑table scenarios and practical command‑focused exercises.

Entry requirements

You are required to complete the online Level 1 Wildfire Awareness course prior to attending (you will be prompted on enrolment onto the course). It is desirable to have SFJ Level 3 Award in Initial Incident Command in Fire and Rescue Services or higher.

Delivery format

This is a 2 day face to face course delivered at the College. You will be assessed through observation and the completion of a SMEAC form.
