Master the essential skills to operate safely, confidently and effectively at wildfire incidents.
The Wildfire Skills course provides firefighters and first‑line supervisors with the essential operational capabilities needed for safe and effective wildfire response. Learners develop core competencies in map reading, navigation, suppression tactics and decision‑making through a blend of classroom learning, 3D visualisation and practical, hands‑on scenario work. This course builds the confidence and technical skill required to operate efficiently on the Fireline and support high‑risk wildfire operations
This course is for operational firefighters and first‑line supervisors who are or will be actively involved in wildfire suppression or who oversee suppression teams, including ICS Level 1 commanders and those working in wildfire high‑risk areas.
You are required to complete the online Level 1 Wildfire Awareness course prior to attending (you will be prompted on enrolment onto the course). It is desirable to have SFJ Level 3 Award in Initial Incident Command in Fire and Rescue Services.
The course uses a blended approach, combining pre‑course self‑study with two days of on‑site learning that includes 3D visualisations, interactive sand‑table scenarios and practical skills exercises supported by guided discussion, continuous assessment and reflective learning. The assessment consists of an online test, map reading assignment and observed practical application of knowledge and skills.
