FSC forges new partnership with Toyota Lean Management Centre

For over 70 years Toyota has been developing business tools that diagnose and improve performance and reduce waste. Problem Solving, Kaizen and 5S are commonplace within the motor industry and Toyota is happy to share their learning with other leading organisations.

Having worked with hospitals, government offices and financial institutions, Toyota Lean Management Centre has now formed a partnership with the Fire Service College to share best practice and assist in the lean journey.

Over two days in July, Martyn Hayward and Mark Siddall from Toyota Lean Management Centre spent time with learners from both the International Brigade and Divisional Command Courses, delivering a tailored programme sharing knowledge about ‘The Toyota Way’. Delegates participated in practical problem-solving exercises, discussed how Kaizen (the process of discovering & eliminating Muda ((waste)) in as little time as possible at the lowest cost) can be incorporated into Fire Services and ways of using 5S to organise and maintain the workplace in a safe, clean, efficient and orderly manner.

Mark Watson, Course Director said, “working in partnership with Toyota Lean Management Academy means that Fire Services around the world will be equipped with the tools to make them more efficient, reduce waste and ensure the service they deliver to the community reflects real value for money”.

It is hoped to explore other opportunities with TLMC and incorporate the learning into other courses run at the Fire Service College as well as future command and leadership courses.
