Business continuity planning available through the Fire Service College

The Fire Service College (FSC), part of Capita People Solutions business, is now able to offer a range of business continuity services through a partnership agreement with Horizonscan ltd. Delivered under its School of Resilience (SoR) arm, the College will offer businesses the ability to mitigate operational risk through improved resilience planning exercises and training.

Designed and delivered by subject matter experts, the SoR will offer four new elements to clients, including: business readiness audits, crisis simulation exercises, Crisisboardroom® and a range of specialist training courses aimed at individuals and organisations. Alongside the suite of courses offered through Horizonscan, the SoR has been able to secure a working partnership with the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) allowing for the delivery of BCI training courses at the FSC’s venue in Moreton-in-Marsh or at a client’s premises.

Ted O’Brien, Head of Learning and Development, Fire Service College said: “Cyber attacks across Europe and fires and flooding for high profile businesses highlight how much the risks and threats facing the modern world have changed in recent years. These crises not only present a challenge for the emergency services, but also for business managers who find their organisations either in the target line or in close proximity. We feel that there has never been a better opportunity to partner with an established and proven supplier of business continuity services such as Horizonscan.”

Horizonscan have been delivering business continuity, resilience and crisis management services for over 7 years to companies such as Aviva, Imperial College London, KPMG and Cummins. All training delivered by Horizonscan is provided by experienced coaches with dozens of years of operational experience in dealing with real life crisis events.

Russ Timpson, Managing Director, Horizonscan said: “Assisting businesses in creating a well-developed, structured and rehearsed business continuity plan that not only allows for swift recovery from an incident, but also ensures that any reputational and brand damage is kept to a minimum. Through our offering, businesses will be given the tools they require to lessen risk and provide resilience at all levels.”

The BCI supports resilience professionals across the globe with training and development opportunities, enrolling over 1500 students every year and supporting wider organisational training requirements for organizations. BCI approved instructors lead online and classroom based courses teaching the basics of business continuity and organisational resilience right through to advanced Professional Practices courses.

Steph Morris, Head of Education and Training, BCI said: “‘Business continuity and organisational resilience skills acquisition is currently high on the agenda of those organizations wishing to recognise, measure and mitigate their operational risks. Factors such as incident management, emergency communications, Brexit, supply chain and cyber security and their impacts should be continually assessed as part of their daily operations. The BCI are excited to be working with Horizonscan and the Fire Service College to establish a new School of Resilience. The SoR will be reaching out to new market sectors and will complement our existing training offer which is already delivered by our established global network of experienced and expert Licenced Training Partners.”

From strategic consultancy to practical training and exercising, the SoR draws on a wide range of experience and expertise, ensuring that the services delivered are tailored to a client’s specific organisational needs. Working with the SoR ensures clients that they can effectively identify the risks and threats that could derail their organisations and develop the means to mitigate against them.
