Award for Charitable Support and Community Engagement

A team from the Fire Service College recently attended the final of the Capita People Awards and received the Bronze Award for Charitable Support and Community Engagement.

Louisa Muckle, Kayla Honour and Emma Close were nominated by their manager and were invited to a celebratory lunch for all finalists at One Whitehall Place, London, where they were presented with their award by Shona Nichols, Executive Director Capita Group Marketing.

During Louisa’s year as President of the FSC Mess Club, over £7,500 was raised in support of 14 local and national charities including: Macmillan Nurses, the NSPCC, Devotion Africa, FOCUS Oncology Centre Cheltenham, The Firefighters Charity, and The Prince’s Trust. As President and Secretary of the Mess Club, Louisa chose Moreton Rangers as the main beneficiary of funds raised during the year, providing them with much need equipment after a fire and floodlighting for the youth training pitch.

Louisa was ably supported by her colleagues and friends Kayla and Emma in the organisation and planning of fund raising activities including formal functions, annual firework display, tribute act evening and quiz nights. The Mess Club also organised a clothes collection for homeless veterans and an Easter egg collection for a children’s ward in a local hospital which was a great success.

Louise says “We were very surprised to have been nominated for a Capita People award and to then make the final and come away with a Bronze Award was fantastic. We are honoured to have been recognised for all our hard work.

“We are very proud to have been a part of The Mess Club and help raise funds for a number of charities and organisations. We would like to thank all of our colleagues, friends and family for all of their support and hope that the fantastic work of The Fire Service College Mess Club continues for many years.”
