Job Title: Secondment opportunity

Reporting To: Head of Training Delivery

Duration: Two years (with possibility to extend for a further year)

Position Overview

To deliver world class training across our suite of BA courses and ensure the highest levels of customer engagement, interaction and satisfaction. You will be an inspirational first class trainer who is conscientious, resourceful and has the highest levels of enthusiasm, dynamism, passion and energy.

Principle Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Course Director and or Course Leader for BA Instructor, Fire Behaviour Instructor, Tactical Ventilation Instructor courses.
  • Multi-Agency course development and delivery to Hazardous Area Response Teams and MET Police.
  • Project and cost management of existing and new Firecraft training courses.
  • Designing, researching, developing and introducing new Firecraft training Courses ensuring they meet National Occupational Standards as required by the UK Fire Service.
  • Delivery of any other relevant Fire Service College (FSC) courses internally and externally as required.
  • Promoting and ensuring the health, safety and welfare of delegates, staff, visitors and contractors.
  • Promoting and ensuring Equality and Diversity for all persons attending the Fire Service College.

Required Role-Specific Competencies / Experience / Educational Qualifications

  • Breathing Apparatus Instructor.
  • Fire Behaviour Training Instructor.
  • Tactical Ventilation Training Instructor.
  • Road Traffic Collision Training Instructor (optional).
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent).
  • Level 3 Assessors (TAQA) (or equivalent)
  • Internal Quality Assurance level 4 (desirable).

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to meet targets and strict deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, highly organised and efficient approach to tasks.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office products.

Management Responsibilities


  • Plan and manage resources to ensure business objectives are met in relevant business area. Develop and deliver annual performance plans and KPIs in line with FSC strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to the longer term FSC strategic business planning by bringing forward commercially sound ideas and proposals.
  • Work with team members to engage and involve them to set team and personal objectives in line with business plan. Provide effective performance feedback and recognition in line with Capita processes to ensure objectives are met.
  • Monitor and report on performance against KPIs and objectives.
  • Work with other Managers and teams across the business to deliver on cross functional projects and to ensure own team are engaged with colleagues across the business.

Finance and Resources:

  • Plan resources, costs and overheads in line with budget, bringing forward proposals as necessary, bring forward proposals to reduce costs and/or increase revenue.
  • Manage and monitor budgets, take action to deal with any variances. Manage budget effectively and in line with Capita procedures and ensure value for money.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure safe working environment for staff and that regular risk assessments are carried out in line with Capita procedures.
  • Ensure staff are suitably trained in relevant Health and Safety within their role.
