Job Title: Operational Support Assistant.

Reporting To: Vehicle & Equipment Manager

Position Overview

To ensure the efficient and effective set up of all training activities and equipment support, this to include Incident Ground, BA servicing, Appliance bay, USAR and Non-mobile Stores as required.

Principle Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Setting up all types of exercises, ignition of materials and clearing away of the resultant debris.
  • Maintain agreed standards of housekeeping and undertake minor maintenance in all relevant training venues (after relevant training and for general maintenance activities). To include, but not limited to;
    • Cleaning of internal venue lighting. Cleaning drains, gullies and interceptors
    • Removal of waste water from fire buildings
  • To clean and service Operational Support equipment.
  • To report all building and equipment defects and issues, aiding a quick and timely response to service requirements.
  • To service or clean all BA sets, cylinders and ancillary equipment as required.
  • To recharge and inspect used cylinders, maintaining records of all test and maintenance.
  • Testing and recharging of all training fire extinguishers and maintain all necessary records.
  • General driving duties, both on and off-site, to include delivery and collection of fire appliances and other vehicles.
  • Ensure that Red Fleet vehicles are equipped and all Incident Ground training aids ready for use. Tasks include but not limited to:
  • Cleaning, drying and re-stowing as required, of all Operational Support equipment on fire appliances and Specialist vehicles.
  • Routine minor repair, servicing and cleaning of all firefighting and rescue equipment, maintaining records of all test and maintenance carried out.
  • To operate forklift trucks, telescopic handlers, tipper trucks, lorries, fire appliances, tankers and cesspit emptier.
  • Operating a mobile crane, writing lift plans and carrying out banks men, signal slingers duties.
  • Assisting generally, as required, on practical training exercises.
  • Undertake First Aid duties as and when required.
  • Carry out grass mowing and strimming when required to maintain satisfactory standards.
  • To proactively assist in managing the Operational Support areas, maintaining the building and site general cleanliness.
  • Any other duties that might be required from time to time by the Vehicle & Equipment Manager including supporting other Teams.

Required Role-Specific Competencies (after training, if required) / Experience / Educational Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE standard
  • Basic IT course
  • Counterbalance forklift qualified
  • Basic IT skills
  • Can do attitude
  • Full car driving license
  • Holmatro equipment servicing & testing
  • Clan Lucas equipment servicing and test
  • USAR equipment servicing & test
  • SWAH test & inspection
  • BA Set test service and inspect
  • Fire extinguisher service and maintenance
  • Data base knowledge

Person Specification

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office products.
