Fire Fighter Development Programme (FFDP) Trainer (Associate Tutor Positions)

Position Overview

Due to increasing popularity and high demand for our Firefighter training courses, we are now looking to recruit a number of Associate Tutors to support the successful delivery of FFDP and apprenticeships to the UK Fire and Rescue Service and private sector clients with firefighting responsibilities at high-risk sites.

You will undertake varying duties such as Subject Matter Expert, Course Director, Course Safety and Tutor whilst supporting the delivery of various levels of training. This will require close liaison with the Business Development, Sales and Marketing and colleagues within the other delivery teams at the FSC.

The role will include a responsibility to ensure the health, safety and welfare of learners, colleagues and visitors, and delivery off-site at other training venues. It is essential that you have worked as a Fire & Rescue service trainer for FFDP and can evidence a minimum of three years in this role.

  • Recruit Training
  • Ladders, Pumps and Drills Training (combination drills)
  • Breathing Apparatus Training
  • Road Traffic Collision Training
  • Safe Working at Height training
  • Fire ground Communications
  • Fitness and Manual Handling
  • Knots and lines
  • Signals
  • Timely and correct completion of all relevant paperwork
  • Deliver blended learning in a way which engages all learners
  • Ensure all training is delivered in line with Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity guidelines
  • Any other duties relevant to the role.


Essential Experience / Skills

  • Has a minimum of three years’ experience with FFDP and is in possession of a recognised teaching qualification (or prepared to achieve within 6 months of starting the role)
  • Instructor qualifications in Breathing Apparatus Instruction (BAI), Fire Behaviour Training Instruction (FBTI) and Road Traffic Collision Instruction (RTCI)
  • Qualified assessor or equivalent, or is prepared to achieve one within 6 months of being in post
  • IOSH qualification or higher
  • Must possess a current fitness test issues by a Fire Rescue Service within the last 6 months (or be willing to take fitness test here at the Fire service College). This will have to be taken 6 monthly on a repeating basis for your welfare
  • Minimum of a level 3 teaching qualification (ideally level 4 or 5).

You will need good availability as programmes can last from 6-12 weeks and can occasionally be overseas. You will be paid a competitive daily rate.
