Spotlight on practical fire investigation training at the FSC

Ceri Darrell | Friday, January 27, 2012

The FSC provides Practical Fire Investigation (FI) training to the UKFRS as well as to other emergency services and private sector organisations.  Our programme has been developed and is delivered in conjunction with the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) for both fire investigators and forensic investigators.

The course is attended by fire officers, forensic investigators and others involved in multi-agency Level 2/3 investigations.  It is a blended programme, consisting of internet based pre course study (20 hours) for the theory, followed by a one-week practical course of fire scene examination and syndicate work.  This course is delivered by highly experienced and qualified FSC officers seconded from the UK Fire & Rescue Service, together with senior NPIA instructors, Forensic Scientists and fire investigation experts.  It also includes the use of a fire investigation dog and handler.

By choosing the FSC for your FI training you will also benefit from the following:

  • a course that has been designed to minimise the time that delegates spend away from the workplace by combining theory delivered through e-learning with 5 days' practical training at the FSC
  • the opportunity to network with Police Scene of Crime and Fire Officer delegates on each course
  • attending a  course which consistently receives very good feedback from delegates
  • training accredited by BTEC with a Level 3 qualification available
  • extremely realistic practical scenarios which provide standard burn to flashover and fire characteristics that replicate those commonly found operationally
  • great value 'blended' training which represents both quality and value for money and is very competitively priced within the marketplace
