Electric Vehicle awareness

Ceri Darrell | Friday, January 27, 2012

In November the College demonstrated its involvement in technology for the future by hosting an Electric Vehicle Seminar which was organised in partnership with Nissan and Renault. The Seminar brought together representatives from the UK Fire & Rescue Service, leading manufacturers, experts and design engineers from across the UK, France and Japan to share their expertise and knowledge relating to the new generation of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and cutting equipment.

With the introduction of EVs into the UK this Seminar covered component layout, built in safety systems and safe handling for the Emergency Services when dealing with incidents involving EVs. Throughout the event delegates had the opportunity to observe cutting demonstrations using a Nissan Leaf and Renault Kangoo EV, two of the several vehicles kindly donated to the College by Nissan & Renault, as well as examine and observe the latest EV cutting equipment from key manufacturers and discover how existing rescue tools perform with EVs and the latest construction methods.

As part of this advancement in new car technology, the College has developed a new two-day Electric Vehicle Awareness course which was launched during the Seminar event and features in our Prospectus. If you are interested in finding out more about the training we offer for Electric Vehicle Awareness please contact us via email at fscnews@fireservicecollege.ac.uk

Looking ahead, a two day event is going to be held at the College which in addition to the UKFRS will also be attended by representatives from the Police and Ambulance Services, as well as the UK's main vehicle recovery companies.
