The role of the Fire & Rescue Service
Educational input from the Fire & Rescue Services helps to reduce the number of hoax calls and arson attacks as well as giving children a broader understanding of the role the firefighter plays in the community. Many Fire & Rescue Services provide free school visits to raise fire safety awareness and you can request a visit by contacting your local Fire & Rescue Service.
Fire & Rescue Services are committed to working in
partnership with schools to raise the awareness of students
concerning home fire safety. Many have formed partnerships with
local education authorities to develop awareness programmes
concerning the overall education of children in becoming "safer
citizens" within the community.
By fostering good behaviour and establishing relationships between
the Fire & Rescue Service, schools and children, the incidence
of deliberate fires and hoax calls can be reduced bringing down the
number of injuries and fatalities that occur each year.
By delivering fire safety advice to children from an early age,
long term benefits are realised as the adults of the future grow up
with a better understanding of the risks associated with fire and
hoax calls. As a result many Fire & Rescue Services provide
education in all Key Stage areas of a child's development.
