Our People
Group Head of Operational Incident Command -
Instructor
I had been to the college as a student and wanted to return as
an instructor to contribute to a safer and more effective
FRS. The opportunities are endless, from expanding my
knowledge of the FRS infrastructure to developing relationships
with other emergency responders who can benefit from our
experience.
In my role as a tutor within the Incident Command section,
I deliver training both at the college and outreach to tactical and
strategic commanders.
Course Instructor - Hazardous Materials
I always wanted to be an instructor at the college, and after 31
years with Cleveland Fire Brigade, I choose to join the college as
a Hazardous materials tutor to share my unique experiences with
students.
My role at the college, has given me an opportunity to help
design training for UKFRS and other industries, and work with
industry in a consultative basis, expecially the petrochemical
industry which has helped to broaden my horizons. And knowing
that I am helping to develop the hazmat responders of tomorrow,
gives me an enormous sense of satisfacion.
Quality Assurance Manager
It was simply through good luck that I originally
joined the college, working as an Office Manager within the Fire
Safety Engineering Division. In 2003, I became the Quality
Assurance Manager which was a huge challenge given the
move from core progression courses to workforce development
training. The ethos is that Quality Assurance is everyone's
responsibility within the college and it is my role to ensure there
are no gaps in the processes and that we demonstrate that the
college does continually improve.
The best bit of my role, is working with enthusiastic and
motivated people who all have a common goal - to train firefighters
to save lives.
Health and Safety Manager
I originally joined the college as H&S manager on a three
month contract as I thought it would be a great opportunity for me
to gain experience at a location internationally known for being
the role model of safety. The concept of managing safety in
an environment which intentionally creates hazards is an unusual
one. I can also see that the college is going through a
period of change and it is an exciting time to be part of the
college as it works to maintain its position as market leader.
I would wholly recommend working at the college, its a unique
place to work and and is ideally suited to someone who can embrace
change, like a challenge and who is prepared to work outside the
box.
